“As an artist I look for beauty all around me. In that beauty I often look for imperfection. I find imperfection to be both inspiring and transcendental. Taking an image and changing it is something I find both challenging and emotional. In continuing this process, taking the image and altering it or layering it, takes it one step closer to finding something even more enticing. The process of making art is almost more important than what I see once a piece is finished. It is both reflective of who I am and what I am feeling at a certain time. Often the layers show a distorted image and adding papers, textures and glass adds volume. I also find words to be cathartic and engaging but sometimes the hidden layers say a lot by themselves. If I can reach a point where I feel as though I am growing, by what I am doing, then I have fulfilled a need, and this is where my art takes me. It is why I believe that ‘beautiful can be anything you want.’”-Dominique Krasow

Dominique Krasow is a local artist born in Portland, Maine. She spent years studying at The University of Southern Maine and received her BA with a concentration in Photography in 2007. Currently she is planning to continue her studies while working on a Masters in Art. She has donated artwork to charities and sold pieces of her mixed media work through local group shows. As an artist her vision is to take images and apply both texture and layers to distort the images. She also uses glass and text to add multiple layers. Her hope in the future is to volunteer at the Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital in Portland, Maine and to help the children find their vision and have herself and other artists create art with the children. She will also be donating art supplies to the hospital and feels that being involved in her community is very important. “My hope as an artist is to always let my feelings embody my work. I find compassion and beauty to be both challenging and enticing. Life is about imperfection and as an artist I have a need to create art as I envision it to be. It is both inspiring and fulfilling. And as I grow as an artist this is where my art takes me.”-Dominique Krasow
